Scrape and go…

Sweet Dreams has been in the water since September. She needed her bottom cleaned. Today we pulled her out and had the marina pressure spray and scrape all the marine growth off. The good news is we still have quite a bit of bottom paint (it slowly falls off) and it should easily make it until October when we are going to have the bottom sanded and painted. We were concerned as we learned most of our paint (we got on sale) was old paint and we were not sure if that would affect its performance. Carol wants the yard to do the work, this is a first for me. She said something about worried I might have a stroke if I do it.

Keeping the bottom clean and painted is one of the primary maintenance jobs on a boat, you can read not cheap. We planned on doing the complete bottom job now but could not find a place to stay for the week under $1,500. Since we will be going home in late October we thought we will just wait and avoid that extra expense, but the scrapping could not wait. I could feel the speed differed. The new paint for October has been purchased at a cool $250/gal…did we ever talk about what boat means “Break Out Another Thousand”.

I hit the mud hump going back into our slip during the big turn I need to do. Not a big deal it is mud but I had to power off it. I was careful not to aim toward Pete and Gail’s boat as I was concerned she would come off the mud with to much momentum to stop in time. A new couple to our dock even said they thought I handle the boat well when I did a 3 point turn. Made me feel kinda good…few pics/movies below.
